Do Your Ears Hang Low?

To be honest, you have to really know your audience when teaching girls this song because there is a dirty version floating around out there.  With girls getting exposed to more adult themes more and more these days, you have to be careful that they won’t try to sing the dirty version and teach the other girls the dirty version.  When I worked at Camp Deer Lake in Silver Springs, CA we had girls coming from all over the San Francisco Bay Area and some thought it was funny to sing the dirty lyrics instead, so be warned of the possibility.

Calamine Lotion

This is a fun summer time song when at camp or out hiking locally.  Since mosquito bites are fairly common in the summer time, this is a song that all the girls will have fun with and be able to relate to.  I’ve had a few experiences where I had to explain to a girl what Calamine Lotion is, but it’s worthwhile for the connection they’ll make when singing the song.

The styles for this song can be changed or expanded on.  You can easily let the girls come up with their own versions and let their creativity take over.  Basically, the main part is just re-sung with the different vocal styles.  This is a repeat back style song, where the song leader sings the line and the girls sing it back.

Announcements Camp Chant

This is a fun quick chant/song for whenever the camp director is about to make announcements.  Of course if there are a lot of announcements, you can only do the song once or else it gets far too obnoxious.  Trust me; I speak from experience! This is chanted to the same tune as the “Farmer in the Dell”.
