Black Socks
I remembered this song this morning while doing my laundry and can’t believe I forgot it! It’s typically sung in the round, which means you divide the girls up into usually 2-3 groups (depending on how many leaders or counselors you have to lead each group) and they start at different intervals. For this song, the new group should start singing after the 2nd line is complete.
Black socks, they never get dirty
The longer you wear them the blacker they get.
Some days I think I should launder them
Something keeps telling me don’t do it yet.
Not yet. Not yet. Not yet. Not yet.

My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean
This is a classic song, and to be honest I don’t remember if I learned it at camp, in Girl Scout meetings, or in school. I definitely remember singing it at camp though in later years as a Counselor-in-Training there. At camp this was an excellent song to sing in the morning between the flag ceremony and breakfast to help wake the girls up. It can also be a great activity to get the girls energized for a meeting. Remember, you sit down or get up (whichever comes next) every time you sing a word that starts with “B”!
My Bonnie lies over the sea
My Bonnie lies over the ocean
So bring back my Bonnie to me
Bring back, Bring back
Bring back my Bonnie to me, to me
Bring back, Bring back
Oh, bring back my Bonnie to me

A Boy and a Girl in a Little Canoe
This is great little song to sing by the water front, or even while in a canoe! I learned this song while at camp, but you could always sing this on a troop outing to a lake while boating.
Just a boy and a girl in a little canoe
With the moon shining all around
As he glides his paddle
You couldn’t even hear a sound
So they talked, and they talked
Till the moon grew dim
Then the little boy said
Let’s go for a swim
So what you gonna do in a little canoe
With the moon shinin’ all a
Boats floatin’ all a
Girls swimmin’ all around!

Old Lady Leary
Before singing this song, divide the group into 4 and have a different counselor or person lead each section, cuing them for their part. Sing the first part together, then break it up in order. Groups 1 & 2 can sing in normal voices, but it’s fun for group 3 to sing their lines in a high pitch and for group 4 to sing their lines in a deep gruff firefighter voice.

Old lady Leary left a lantern in the shed
and when the cow kicked it over, she winked her eye and said
“It’ll be a hot time in the old town tonight”
Group 1: Fire! Fire! Fire!
Group 2: Water! Water! Water!
Group 3: Save My Child! Save My Child!
Group 4: Jump, Lady, Jump!
John Jacob Jingle Heimer Schmidt
This is a fun song. As you sing it, you repeat the words getting quieter and quieter each round until it’s too quiet. You also sing it faster and faster as you repeat it. You could probably mix it up and repeat the words louder and louder too. It’s your choice!
