Linger

Linger

One of my favorite songs for closing campfire! To this day it still brings back memories of that last night at camp, wanting to linger all summer and not wanting to say goodbye to new friends. Even worse, that last night after working the whole summer as a counselor and really not wanting to go back to real life after 2 1/2 magical months in nature!

Mmm Mmm I want to linger,
Mmm Mmm a little longer,
Mmm Mmm a little longer here with you.

Mmm Mmm it’s such a perfect night,
Mmm Mmm it’s doesn’t seem quite right,
Mmm Mmm that this she be my last with you.

Mmm Mmm and come September,
Mmm Mmm we’ll still remember,
Mmm Mmm our camping days and friendship true.

Mmm Mmm and as the years go by,
Mmm Mmm I’ll think of you and sigh,
Mmm Mmm this is good night and not goodbye.

Mmm Mmm I want to linger,
Mmm Mmm a little longer,
Mmm Mmm a little longer here with you.

Girl Scouts Together

Girl Scouts Together

This might be one of the first songs ever taught when you join Girl Scouts! This song was actually an Honorable Mention from the Girl Scout Nation Song Contest in 1941. Way to go, Gladys Cornwall Goff!

Girl Scouts together, That is our song,
Winding the old trails, rocky and long.
Leaning our motto, living our creed,
Girl Scouts together in every good deed.

Girl Scouts together, Happy are we,
Friendly to neighbors far over the sea,
Faithful to country, loyal to home,
Known as true Girl Scouts wherever we roam.

Whene’er You Make a Promise

Whene’er You Make a Promise

This might have very well been one of the first songs I learned as a Brownie.  It’s a classic Girl Scout song that we sang all the way through Senior scouts.  It’s a very short song, but lovely. It’s sometimes sung in a four-part round.

Whene’er you make a promise,
Consider well it’s importance
And when made,
Engrave it upon your heart.

Camptown Races

Camptown Races

This song is also referred to as Camptown Ladies.  The doo-da is the most fun part of the song, at least for a young girl it was! I remember usually singing a very abbreviated version of this song, but Camptown Races is more fun when you sing the whole thing!

The Camptown ladies sing this song,
Doo-da, Doo-da
The Camptown racetrack’s five miles long
Oh, de doo-da day

Goin’ to run all night
Goin’ to run all day
I bet my money on a bob-tailed nag
Somebody bet on the gray

Oh, the long tailed filly and the big black horse,
Doo-da, doo-da
Come to a mud hole and they all cut across,
Oh, de doo-da day

Goin’ to run all night
Goin’ to run all day
I bet my money on a bob-tailed nag
Somebody bet on the gray

I went down there with my hat caved in,
Doo-da, doo-da
I came back home with a pocket full of tin
Oh, de doo-da day

Goin’ to run all night
Goin’ to run all day
I bet my money on a bob-tailed nag
Somebody bet on the gray

B-I-N-G-O

B-I-N-G-O

Everyone knows this song.  It’s an old favorite.  I assume I was originally taught this in kindergarten, but we utilized it at camp and in meetings as well .  Repeat and each time you sing the next verse substitute a letter with a clap.

There was a farmer who had a dog
And Bingo was his name-o.
B-I-N-G-O
B-I-N-G-O
B-I-N-G-O
And Bingo was his name-o
