A Boy and a Girl in a Little Canoe

A Boy and a Girl in a Little Canoe

This is great little song to sing by the water front, or even while in a canoe!  I learned this song while at camp, but you could always sing this on a troop outing to a lake while boating.

Just a boy and a girl in a little canoe
With the moon shining all around
As he glides his paddle
You couldn’t even hear a sound
So they talked, and they talked
Till the moon grew dim
Then the little boy said
Let’s go for a swim
So what you gonna do in a little canoe
With the moon shinin’ all a
Boats floatin’ all a
Girls swimmin’ all around!

John Jacob Jingle Heimer Schmidt

John Jacob Jingle Heimer Schmidt

This is a fun song.  As you sing it, you repeat the words getting quieter and quieter each round until it’s too quiet. You also sing it faster and faster as you repeat it. You could probably mix it up and repeat the words louder and louder too. It’s your choice!

John Jacob Jingle Heimer Schmidt,
His name is my name, too!
Whenever we go out, the people always shout,
“There goes John Jacob Jingle Heimer Schmidt!”
La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la!

If You’re Happy & You Know It

If You’re Happy & You Know It

Everyone knows this song, but some people as they get older tend to forget the lyrics exactly.  So here they are as a reference point.

If you’re happy and you know it
Clap your hands
If you’re happy and you know it Clap your hands
If you’re happy and you know it
And you really want to show it
If you’re happy and you know it
Clap your hands

Continue in a similar manner
If you’re happy and you know it
Stomp your feet.
If you’re happy and you know it
Shout “Hooray!”
If you’re happy and you know it
Do all three

Do Your Ears Hang Low?

Do Your Ears Hang Low?

To be honest, you have to really know your audience when teaching girls this song because there is a dirty version floating around out there.  With girls getting exposed to more adult themes more and more these days, you have to be careful that they won’t try to sing the dirty version and teach the other girls the dirty version.  When I worked at Camp Deer Lake in Silver Springs, CA we had girls coming from all over the San Francisco Bay Area and some thought it was funny to sing the dirty lyrics instead, so be warned of the possibility.

Do your ears hang low?
Do they wobble to and fro?
Can you tie them in a knot?
Can you tie them in a bow?
Can you throw them o’er your shoulder like a Continental soldier?
Do your ears hang low?

Boom Chicka Boom

Boom Chicka Boom

The styles for this song can be changed or expanded on.  You can easily let the girls come up with their own versions and let their creativity take over.  Basically, the main part is just re-sung with the different vocal styles.  This is a repeat back style song, where the song leader sings the line and the girls sing it back.

I said a boom chick-a boom
I said a boom chick-a boom
I said a boom chick-a rock-a chick-a rock-a chick-a boom
Uh-huh
Oh yeah
One more time…

Change style each time
Italiano style (boomba, rrrock-a)
Valley girl style (like, I said, like, a boom chicka boom)
Astronaut style (zoom chick-a zoom, take a rocket to the moon)
Opera Style
Janitor Style (broom sweep a broom, sweep-a mop-a)
Underwater style (using your finger to make underwater noises on your lips)
Southern Belle style (heavy Southern accent)
Broadway Musical Style (sing to the back of the room)
Etc.
