Peace Like a River

Peace Like a River

This was always a popular song for younger girls since there aren’t many words to remember. We would always make motions like the river, ocean, fountains with our hands. We’d also repeat the lines that ended with “in my soul” with a second, revival tent style shouting of “In my soul!”.

I’ve got peace like a river
I’ve got peace like a river
I’ve got peace like a river in my soul
I’ve got peace like a river
I’ve got peace like a river
I’ve got peace like a river in my soul

I’ve got love like an ocean
I’ve got love like an ocean
I’ve got love like an ocean in my soul
I’ve got love like an ocean
I’ve got love like an ocean
I’ve got love like an ocean in my soul

I’ve got joy like a fountain
I’ve got joy like a fountain
I’ve got joy like a fountain in my soul
I’ve got joy like a fountain
I’ve got joy like a fountain
I’ve got joy like a fountain in my soul

I’ve got peace and joy like a river
I’ve got peace and joy like a river
I’ve got peace and joy like a river in my soul
I’ve got peace and joy like a river
I’ve got peace and joy like a river
I’ve got peace and joy like a river in my soul
I’ve got peace and joy like a river in my soul

I love to see lyrics to Girl Scout songs posted like this, but do you know of any way to get the tunes? That’s what I struggle with – getting printed lyrics is the easy part, but without a tune I can’t teach the songs to my girls. This song is lovely in its simplicity.

  2. Thanks for stopping by Shannon! I wish I knew how to write sheet music! For some songs, if they’ve been included on an album somewhere I include an iTunes link to buy it that’ll help with the tune, but otherwise aside from me singing it (which will sound weird solo) I’m not sure what else I could do. Definitely something I want to address though!

I’ll dig out my song books sometime this week (most of the songs I’ve included on this site, so far, are from my memory) and if the song book has sheet music to this that might help, I’ll scan it. I just worry about including it since it’s from a book I don’t own the rights to, y’know? 🙂
