A Roosta Sha

A Roosta Sha

I was taught that this song was originally from Australia, though I can’t necessarily confirm that.  Of course, when saying each of the actions, you do them.  And hold that action while adding the others.  It’s very similar to twister in terms of the dexterity of some girls to hold the awkward poses and not fall down!  Of course, the addition of the “Tongues Out” was usually left until the end because it was difficult to complete the last chorus 🙂

(Chorus)
A roosta sha a roosta sha a roosta sha sha
A roosta sha a roosta sha a roosta sha sha

(The Chorus is repeated, then the actions are done in a “repeat after me” style adding a new action)
i.e. Thumbs Up
Knees Together
Elbows Back
Chin Up
Bum out
Tongue Out

Boa Constrictor

Boa Constrictor

Yes, this is the words to the famous Boa Constrictor Shel Silverstein poem, but somewhat sung or chanted. We used it often during my days at camp!

I’m being swallowed by a
boa constrictor,
I’m being swallowed by a
boa constrictor,
I’m being swallowed by a
boa constrictor,
And I don’t like it very much.

Oh no, he swallowed by toe.

Oh gee, he’s up to my knee.

Oh fiddle, he’s up to my middle,

Oh heck, he’s up to my neck.

Oh dread, he swallowed my (slurp-swallow)

A Pizza Hut

A Pizza Hut

This song is great fun because it involves making movements.  Before the song, teach the girls the movements and then do them along with them.  The girls have a lot of fun with this song because of the recognized fast food places listed.

A Pizza Hut (make a square in the air)
A Pizza Hut
Kentucky Fried Chicken (flap your arms like you’re doing the chicken dance)
And a Pizza Hut
A Pizza Hut
A Pizza Hut,
Kentucky Fried Chicken
And a Pizza Hut

McDonalds McDonalds (use two hands-make an “M” in the air, starting in the middle)
Kentucky Fried Chicken
And a Pizza Hut
Mc Donald’s, Mc Donald’s,
Kentucky Fried Chicken
And a Pizza Hut

A Jabba the Hut
A Jabba the Hut
Luke Skywalker
And a Jabba the Hut
A Jabba the Hut
A Jabba the Hut
Luke Skywalker
And a Jabba the Hut
Darth Vader Darth Vader
Luke Skywalker
And a Jabba the Hut
Darth Vader Darth Vader
Luke Skywalker
And a Jabba the Hut

A Burger King (mime eating a burger)
A Burger King,
A Taco Bell (mime ringing a bell)
And a Burger King
A Burger King
A Burger King,
A Taco Bell
And a Burger King
Red Lobster, Red Lobster, (make claws)
A Taco Bell
And a Burger King
Red Lobster, Red Lobster,
A Taco Bell
And a Burger King

Rise and Shine

Rise and Shine

Since the Girl Scouts is a non-religious organization, we were always very careful to edit songs that were overly religious for inclusive purposes.  So in doing some research to make sure I was remembering the lyrics right, I found a very religious version I didn’t realize existed.  Now, when I was at camp we’d sing this song in the morning to get the girls awake before breakfast.  We only ever sang the chorus, and we substituted “earth” for “lord”.  Some of you may lead your troops with a bit more religion depending on your area and the comfort of the parents, so for good measure I will post the original version.  Just keep in mind that you can do just the chorus and change the word “lord” for a more inclusive version.

Chorus:
So rise and shine
And sing out your glory, glory
So rise and shine
And sing out your glory, glory
Rise and Shine and (Clap)
Sing out your glory, glory
Children of the Lord

Lord said to Noah
“There’s gonna be a floody, floody”
Lord said to Noah
“There’s gonna be a floody, floody”
Get those children (Clap)
Out of the muddy, muddy
Children of the Lord

(Chorus)

Noah, he built him
He built him and arky, arky
Made it out of Hickory barky, barky

(Chorus)

The animals they came on
They came on by two-sies, two-sies
Elephants and kangaroo-sies –oosies

(Chorus)

It rained and poured for
Forty day-sies, day-sies
Nearly drove those animals
Crazy, crazy

(Chorus)

The sun came out and
Dried up the landy, landy
Everything was fine
And dandy, dandy

(Chorus)

The animals they came out
They came out by
Three-sies, three-sies
Must have been those
Birds and bee-sies, bee-sies

(Chorus)

This is the end of
The end of our story, story
Everything was,
Honky dorey, dorey

Black Socks

Black Socks

I remembered this song this morning while doing my laundry and can’t believe I forgot it! It’s typically sung in the round, which means you divide the girls up into usually 2-3 groups (depending on how many leaders or counselors you have to lead each group) and they start at different intervals. For this song, the new group should start singing after the 2nd line is complete.

Black socks, they never get dirty
The longer you wear them the blacker they get.
Some days I think I should launder them
Something keeps telling me don’t do it yet.

Not yet. Not yet. Not yet. Not yet.
