Kum Ba Yah

Kum Ba Yah

This is a pretty religious song, so these days it might be avoided if parents are particularly sensitive. With a lot of the religious songs we sang in Girl Scouts growing up, it was easy to replace Lord with Earth, but this one uses it so often I don’t think it would be possible.

Kum Ba yah, my Lord, Kum Ba Yah.
Kum Ba yah, my Lord, Kum Ba Yah.
Kum Ba yah, my Lord, Kum Ba Yah.
Oh, Lord, Kum ba Yah.
Oh, Lord, Kum Ba Yah.

Someone’s crying, Lord, Kum Ba Yah.
Someone’s crying, Lord, Kum Ba Yah.
Someone’s crying, Lord, Kum Ba Yah.
Oh, Lord, Kum Ba Yah.
Oh, Lord, Kum Ba Yah.

Someone’s praying, Lord, Kum Ba Yah.
Someone’s praying, Lord, Kum Ba Yah.
Someone’s praying, Lord, Kum Ba Yah.
Oh, Lord, Kum Ba Yah.
Oh, Lord, Kum Ba Yah.

Someone’s singing, Lord, Kum Ba Yah.
Someone’s singing, Lord, Kum Ba Yah.
Someone’s singing, Lord, Kum Ba Yah.
Oh, Lord, Kum Ba Yah.
Oh, Lord, Kum Ba Yah.

Gee Mom I Want to Go Home

Gee Mom I Want to Go Home

I guess this song assumes that this is either a co-ed camp (which generally means it’s not a Girl Scout camp), or there’s a nearby co-ed or Boy Scout camp! ¬†Also, what are the girls doing drinking coffee?! :)

The boys at the teepee,
They say are mighty fine,
They’re either under seven,
Or over ninety-nine.

Chorus:
I don’t want no more of camp life,
Gee mom, I want to go, oh, mom, I want to go,
Gosh, mom, I want to go home.

The food at the teepee,
They say is mighty fine.
A roll fell off the table
and killed a friend of mine
(Chorus)

The t-shirts at the teepee
They say are mighty fine,
Me and my buddy can both fit into mine
(Chorus)

The watermelon at the teepee
They say is might fine,
the counselors get the red part
And we get all the rind

(Chorus)

The coffee at the teepee
They say is might fine,
It’s good for cuts and bruises
and tastes like iodine.

Of course, there are endless renditions of this song since it’s always customized to the camp you’re at!
