Button Factory

Button Factory

This is a fun song as it involves a lot of activity.  Hilarity will ensue, especially with younger, less coordinated girls. In addition to just being plain fun, it also helps teach very small girls their right from left and the different names of body parts! This song is really less sung and more said like a poem.

Hi, my name is Joe
And I work in a button factory
I got a wife and dog and a family
One day, my boss said to me and said Hi Joe, are ya busy I said no
So I pushed the button with my right hand

Make a push gesture with the right hand. Repeat song adding new body parts to push with and keep doing all actions simultaneously.

Happy Girl Scout Week!

Happy Girl Scout Week!

This week, Girl Scouts is celebrating it’s 99th year!  That’s an amazing feat, and we’re just one year away from the centennial of Girl Scouting in the United States.  It’s a thrilling time!

To celebrate, this entire week leading up to the 99th anniversary on March 12th has been deemed Girl Scout Week.  The Girl Scout Shop has a new catalog out full of practical things like uniforms and fun things like teddy bears in adorable GS hoodies!

Love Girl Scout CookiesCelebrate in your own way!  Make some great scrunchies or bandannas with Girl Scout Fabric!  Put together a cool memory book of your troops activities using Girl Scout themed scrapbook materials.  Or just get together and sing some songs!  Don’t forget that you have until March 27th to get your cookie fix!

For those of us in Northern California, you can use this handy Cookie Finder to see where the closest booth sale to you is.  They’ve also got a handy Cookie Locator iPhone app, which I’m happy to report also works on my iPad well enough!

Happy Scouting!

Gee Mom I Want to Go Home

Gee Mom I Want to Go Home

I guess this song assumes that this is either a co-ed camp (which generally means it’s not a Girl Scout camp), or there’s a nearby co-ed or Boy Scout camp! One of the Girl Scout Camps I went to did, in fact, have a Boy Scout camp down the road but it was not close enough for anyone to get into any trouble. Also, what are the girls doing drinking coffee?! 🙂

The boys at the teepee,
They say are mighty fine,
They’re either under seven,
Or over ninety-nine.

Chorus:
I don’t want no more of camp life,
Gee mom, I want to go, oh, mom, I want to go,
Gosh, mom, I want to go home.

The food at the teepee,
They say is mighty fine.
A roll fell off the table
and killed a friend of mine
(Chorus)

The t-shirts at the teepee
They say are mighty fine,
Me and my buddy can both fit into mine
(Chorus)

The watermelon at the teepee
They say is might fine,
the counselors get the red part
And we get all the rind

(Chorus)
The coffee at the teepee
They say is might fine,
It’s good for cuts and bruises
and tastes like iodine.
