Rise and Shine

Since the Girl Scouts is a non-religious organization, we were always very careful to edit songs that were overly religious for inclusive purposes.  So in doing some research to make sure I was remembering the lyrics right, I found a very religious version I didn’t realize existed.  Now, when I was at camp we’d sing this song in the morning to get the girls awake before breakfast.  We only ever sang the chorus, and we substituted “earth” for “lord”.  Some of you may lead your troops with a bit more religion depending on your area and the comfort of the parents, so for good measure I will post the original version.  Just keep in mind that you can do just the chorus and change the word “lord” for a more inclusive version.

Chorus:
So rise and shine
And sing out your glory, glory
So rise and shine
And sing out your glory, glory
Rise and Shine and (Clap)
Sing out your glory, glory
Children of the Lord

Lord said to Noah
“There’s gonna be a floody, floody”
Lord said to Noah
“There’s gonna be a floody, floody”
Get those children (Clap)
Out of the muddy, muddy
Children of the Lord

(Chorus)

Noah, he built him
He built him and arky, arky
Made it out of Hickory barky, barky

(Chorus)

The animals they came on
They came on by two-sies, two-sies
Elephants and kangaroo-sies –oosies

(Chorus)

It rained and poured for
Forty day-sies, day-sies
Nearly drove those animals
Crazy, crazy

(Chorus)

The sun came out and
Dried up the landy, landy
Everything was fine
And dandy, dandy

(Chorus)

The animals they came out
They came out by
Three-sies, three-sies
Must have been those
Birds and bee-sies, bee-sies

(Chorus)

This is the end of
The end of our story, story
Everything was,
Honky dorey, dorey
