This might have very well been one of the first songs I learned as a Brownie. It’s a classic Girl Scout song that we sang all the way through Senior scouts. It’s a very short song, but lovely.
Whene’er you make a promise,
Consider well it’s importance
And when made,
Engrave it upon your heart.

This song is also referred to as Camptown Ladies. The doo-da is the most fun part of the song, at least for a young girl it was!
The Campptown ladies sing this song,
Doo-da, Doo-da
The Camptown racetrack’s five miles long
Oh, de doo-da day
Goin’ to run all night
Goin’ to run all day

Everyone knows this song. It’s an old favorite. I assume I was originally taught this in kindergarten, but we utilized it at camp and in meetings as well . Repeat and each time you sing the next verse substitute a letter with a clap.
There was a farmer who had a dog
And Bingo was his name-o.

I loved this song, including the little words in between. All the words in parenthesis are shouted, not really sung. We also made up little actions to them, like the motions of a truck horn during the “toot toot”. Little pantomimes make the song extra fun.

This is a really fun song, as kids love the motions of the bopping field mice on the head. A lot of schools teach this, at least that’s where I first learned it.

Scooping up the field mice
And bopping ‘em on the head

This song is sung with a southern twang, and during the banjo parts, play a banjo sound. It’s a fun song for kids.

Of course, this can be a horrifically annoying song for any adult, to realize the consequences before you teach a child this!
This is the song that never ends
It just goes on and on, my friend
Some people started singing it
Forever just because…(Repeat)

This is a fun song, though you have to listen to the song to get the rhythm going.

A moosa moosa moosa (repeat)

This song was made famous by Cat Stevens, though I learned this song at camp long before I knew anything about Cat Stevens. We sang it frequently by the fire as some of the last songs of the evening to wind down before bed.

Another great slow song, this is popular to sing both in troop meetings, ceremonies, and at camp. We didn’t sing it so much at camp since, although it was Girl Scout camp, not every girl that attended was actually a Girl Scout. Many included their registration fees in their fees to attend camp, but never [...]
